I want to begin by saying that I do a lot of research prior to visit a property. The reviews of the this property would seem to support that it is a good value and warrants the prices charged even though it is literally in the middle of no where. I visit properties personally prior to recommending them to my clients and I do send my personal reviews to some blogs that I follow. You can see from the postings that I leave on Trip advisor, that I really try to focus on the positive and not on the negative. I understand that "opinions and expectations" are personal. That being said, travel at a mid to luxury level is not inexpensive and for me, the comfort of the place a lay my head has a large impact on the pleasure of my stay. Prior to our stay at Chateau Grattequina, we stayed in Cognac. The hotel there was a five star hotel, the service was impeccable, the staff so attentive and gracious AND the price was only 8 euro more per night than Chateau Grattequine. I would have gladly driven the hour and a half a day to and from the Bordeaux region and stayed there longer had I known the situation. Not everyone will have access to a rental car nor wants to take the time to drive but do take into consideration this place is at a 20 minute drive for fast.mall food and a 30 minute drive to any good restaurant in Bordeaux But, I digress, below is the list of issues that I sent to the property following our visit, I wanted to address this with the owner prior to writing a review. The response from the owner was simply they felt they had met their standards. The 14 euro corkage fee they claim is "normal" we had no such experience in our hotels in Cognac, Normandy, or Paris. Of course you cannot bring your own wine to a restaurant, which we did not, this was to consume wine on the patio. They were disappointed we did not partake in the breakfast offered (22 euros pp), they did give us ice twice (two cupfuls) and felt we should have been appreciative that they did not raise the price due to the Rugby tournament in the error. They felt I was "harsh" in my comments. You can decide. No offer of a partial refund was made. I did not include part of my review where I note personal names You can judge for yourself, I will not be returning nor will I recommend this to anyone. 1. Afternoon of our arrival, September 4, the wine machine is nearly empty with only a few choices. We are told there is no ice or any tonic. I ask, due to the lack of wine available can we drink our own and am told yes but it must be consumed in our rooms and there will be a 14 euro charge per bottle to open the wine!!!! 2. Day of arrival, the food available was very limited, and we were reluctant to eat it because we saw a refrigerator on the lower level with cheese and meat trays; however, the refrigerator door was open, and the food was warm to the touch. We asked about restaurants in the area, very little was open and the meal at the establishment that was recommended was mediocre a
