We had a very comfortable stay in Hotel Carlton. It’s my third time to stay there. The location is fantastic. The whole experience is special. The location is very good, I feel that this is a veteran five-star hotel with a strong Basque style design. The suite I stayed in, the room was large, the view was good, and there was a garage in the ground. Maybe the room is not new enough, but it is well maintained. Next to the park, walk to the Basque Museum for 5 minutes and Guggenheim for 10 minutes. I recommend.

The staff are welcoming and helpful. If there are many of us per room, those with whom we share it respect the privacy and sleep of others. Showers and toilets are very clean. The space where to eat is judiciously laid out, so that we can interact with all the customers and staff. Access to Wi-Fi is very practical especially when, like me, you come from abroad. I had to leave the hostel earlier than expected. The staff offered me a refund for the two nights I hadn't spent at the hostel. If this was not finally possible, since I made my reservation on Booking, I warmly thank the whole team for the proposal. The only drawback - you always need one - is the lack of outlets in the rooms, near the beds, to charge your mobile phone.

The location is really a bit biased, but there is also a commercial package next to it that is OK. The quality of the hotel's service, breakfast, and the internal environment are very good. There is a subway within a 15-minute walk, and it’s fast to the center of Bilbao. Next time I go on a business trip, I’ll change to a closer location, but it’s good for a vacation. You can stay in the hotel for a whole day, hahahahaha

I needed my boyfriend to stay over while I was traveling and this was the perfect place. This isn't a 5-star hotel, but it did the trick and we were very comfortable - here is why. PROS - Coming from Bilbao Airplane or taking Bus?...: It is close to 2 blocks from Bilbao Intermodal and if you are coming from the airport, this hotel is an easy walk from where the bus drops you off in San Mamés. The location is also SUPER safe. - Transportation: If you look down the street and cross it, you will also see the tram station along with the metro station. - Food?: There is food everywhere. This is Bilbao. Spend 2 euros (or really please buy a Barik card) and go into the city, you won't be disappointed. The best part about the tram is that it goes theoretically left or right. I live close to NYC so I understand it can be complicated, but the system in Bilbao, chef's kiss. - Bed/Room: Pro? The bed/room you get in sleek, modern, and for a REALLY CHEAP PRICE! Please don't hassle your way into spending a lot of money on a hotel in Spain. It is not truly worth it. Just get this place, feel comfortable, and safe. - Staff? There are not many, but the ones that are there will help and accommodate you. You just need to be nice. I say this because I went in to check in and someone was being helped. They weren't that nice to staff, so please remember, we are all human. CONS - Cleaning: I will say, the bathrooms were clean, but the headboard for me was dusty. It might have been that the room wasn't used a lot. But please don't worry, it did not effect my stay considering the price was reasonably cheap. - THE ENTRANCE!: You need to understand, their rating is a 2/5 stars but it is NOT because they are bad, in Spain it is based on what the hotel/hostels have and DON'T have. So what they don't have is a front reception. Listen closely if you are going to go here. Once you get on the street, you will need to buzz into the door as if you are requesting to go to someone's apartment. OR they will give you a code before hand. Once you go in, you need to go straight till you can anymore. Make a left and find the elevator. There you will need to press the

I enjoyed my stay here, everything was super clean and private feeling. The downstairs area was nice, and there were activities on each night. The only thing I'd say is it would be nice to have bathrooms outside of the rooms as well on each floor in case you need to use the shower etc at the same time as someone in your room. It also felt like you were intruding in their space if you went into the bathroom area when someone else was in there (the shower, toilet, and mirror/sink were all really close together). Saying that, I'd still stay again!

Hemos estado este fin de semana alojados en un apartamento con 2 niñas y un bebé y nos hemos encontrado muy cómodos. Apartamento amplio, con cocina equipada para poder hacer comidas sencillas, mesa de comedor donde entraban hasta 6 personas, baño grande; en el salón había literas y sofá cama, pero está genial que el sofá no lo abran como cama porque así se puede usar para ver la tele (por cierto bastante grande). Además nos pusieron supletoria por si las niñas tenían miedo a dormir en la cama de arriba, una cuna que tenía hasta la mantita, toallas para todos, incluido el bebé (que en muchos sitios no lo ponen). Recepción y resto de personal del hotel, todo amabilidad. Además cuenta con acceso al bar restaurante, con una oferta variada para desayunar, estaba bien y a un precio correcto. El restaurante no lo probamos. Está a 10 minutos de la playa, aparcamos gratis en un sitio cercano que ellos nos indicaros, el metro a 5 minutos andando y las vistas son muy bonitas. Ya habíamos estado hace años, pero seguro que volvemos en otra ocasión .

The hotel was well known and its strengths remained the location, comfort of beds, quality of towels and the bathroom in case it was in the room. I haven't enjoyed the meal in any of your options so I can't comment on it. As regards deficiencies, the structure of the rooms makes the conversations of neighbouring rooms heard and clearly perceived (a good tape solves it) The spa is obsolete and it would be good to update it. The hotel is very comfortable and would repeat it, but as I suggested earlier, a 4-star hotel is defined by detail attention.

Found this hotel after a search on Wotif. It did not disappoint. Everything perfect. Staff, especially Reception, friendly, welcoming and keen to help in anyway. Room large and very comfortable. Dinner in the hotel was superb. Food wonderful (try the Fois Gras (Mi-Cuit) - perfect) and service 100% by 3 lovely ladies. Great location just a short 5 minute walk into the old town. Parking available which was a plus for us. Great value for money. Can highly recommend.

We have stayed here a few times on way back to Wales and every time we found great service. Hotel always smells nice and is clean. It is a cheap hotel which punches above its weight for value. 1 criticism is that the food os terrible. Guy told us that all food is microwaved. Not a big deal as there a food court 3 mins away amd plenty of restaurants around. Great location to explore surrounding area.

When checking in, the big brother at the front desk introduced various local attractions and food. When I checked out, I parked the car a lot. Will eat pinchos before coming back, hotel has parking lot for 18 euros a day

I stayed 1 night at the Bolina while walking the Camino de Santiago. The hotel is in a prime location just half a block off the Camino in the old city and at this time check in is through the hotel's bar. There is no lift and sleeping rooms are on 3 floors up stairs. My room was small and the bathroom was tiny but they had all that I needed for 1 night. There was a big comfortable bed and a stand that worked to hold my open bag. A small desk at the end of the bed made for a tight fit and required squeezing past on an angle which gives an idea of the room size. Everything was acceptably clean if not pristine scrubbed. This is an older hotel with a bit of rust and general scruffiness. My room was very light with afternoon sun. The wifi is bad, coming and going in all parts of the building including the room and the bar. The hotel bar is very popular and busy with nice and helpful staff, good pintxos and outdoor as well as indoor seating. My room was at the back of the building and did not get any noise from downstairs but I could hear other guests on the landing - and the Spanish can be very noisy. Hotel Bolina is a reasonable place to stay for a night if you don't have extravagant expectations and it is wonderfully convenient for access to the Camino.

Antsotegi, what to say about it. Well, that it’s an absolute gem of a place to stay when visiting the Basque Country. Off the beaten track, and actually situated on the Camino de Santiago route. Beautifully located in gorgeous green scenery in the hilly countryside, it facilitates both Camino heroes and adventurous types, as well as couples looking for a romantic get away surrounded by tranquility and pure nature. What makes Antsotegi even better and what truly is an absolute selling point, is its amazing owners and staff. Super friendly and ready to help you in any way they can. From great tips as to where to go and what to do from Ashley. Great and pure friendliness and know how of local produce and products, attentive and skillful service by Jon, and honest, friendly and humorous attentiveness by Gomtzal, and the rest of the crew we haven’t mentioned. It just feels like you’re staying with best friends. Food is simple yet utterly delicious prepared with local produce, and most importantly with love. My wife and I have had an absolutely amazing time in Antsotegi, and would highly recommend this beautiful rough gem to anyone that’s looking for something different yet of superb quality. ¡ Fantastic stay! The hotel is a great truth, super large and clean rooms with a huge bathroom (in my case was double room) equipped with towels, dryer and liquid gel/shampoo for the shower. Für die Fahrt von Deutschland Richtung Portugal hatten wir uns Bilbao für zwei Zwischenübernachtungen und natürlich auch den Besuch des Guggenheim Museums ausgesucht. Hier fiel bei der Suche gleich das Libere Appartement ins Auge, bietet es doch einen wunderbaren Blick auf das Museum. Preislich ist das schon relativ gehoben, wenn man für zwei ÜN 530€ bezahlt, wobei hier weder Frühstück (kann man separat buchen), noch ein Parkplatz (viel Erfolg bei der Suche) im Preis enthalten sind. Um das Gepäck auszuladen, kann man wohl mal zwei Minuten unten irgendwo halten, mehr ist aber nicht drin. Dann geht es erst Mal ins Parkhaus oder unten am Fluss auf Parkplatzsuche. Das Haus bzw. das Appartement betraten wir mit einem zwei Tage vorher erhaltenen Schlüsselcode, wer es noch bequemer mag, kann sich eine passende App runterladen und die Türen dann mit dem Smartphone öffnen. Das Appartement bot den versprochenen Ausblick und wir konnten von unserem Fenster direkt auf das Museum schauen, hier gibt es die volle Punktzahl. Auch die Sauberkeit war in Ordnung, das ganze Appartement inkl. Bad sogar barrierefrei. Die Ausstattung der Küche hingegen sehr ausbaufähig. Was bringt mir eine Kaffeemaschine, wenn keine Kaffeepads vorhanden sind? Sorry, das ist heute in jedem Durchschnittshotel Standard und es sollte wohl möglich sein, dass das Reinigungspersonal dann einfach zwei oder drei Kaffeepads hinlegt. Außerdem gibt es viele Teller und Besteck, in einem Appartement, das im Normalfall von zwei Personen bewohnt wird, aber keinen Zucker, kein Salz, kein Pfeffer. Ich vermute, dass ein Großteil der Gäste für ein oder zwei Nächte bleiben wird. Wenn man dann wirklich in der kurzen Zeit kochen möchte, auch Töpfe sind ja vorhanden, macht es schon Sinn die Basics im Schrank zu haben. Sicherlich keine große Investition für den Vermieter. Aber ein großer Nutzen für die Gäste. Ach ja, wer Kleinigkeiten auf die Schnelle benötigt: im selben Gebäude ist im Erdgeschoss ein Mini-Market, der eine bunte Auswahl an Allem hat. Nur natürlich nicht die passenden Kaffeepads. Aber das war ja irgendwie klar. Fazit: die Lage ist und bleibt perfekt (fünf Punkte), ansonsten ist mit wenig Mühe noch locker Luft nach oben (drei Punkte). Macht in der Summe vier Punkte.

The staff are welcoming and helpful. If there are many of us per room, those with whom we share it respect the privacy and sleep of others. Showers and toilets are very clean. The space where to eat is judiciously laid out, so that we can interact with all the customers and staff. Access to Wi-Fi is very practical especially when, like me, you come from abroad. I had to leave the hostel earlier than expected. The staff offered me a refund for the two nights I hadn't spent at the hostel. If this was not finally possible, since I made my reservation on Booking, I warmly thank the whole team for the proposal. The only drawback - you always need one - is the lack of outlets in the rooms, near the beds, to charge your mobile phone.

The location of the hotel is superb. The most newest hotel in Bilbao. The parking brothers are super nice. Everyone speaks good English. Four-star hotel. Five-star + service. When checking in, the big brother at the front desk introduced various local attractions and food. When I checked out, I parked the car a lot. Will eat pinchos before coming back, hotel has parking lot for 18 euros a day

Very good location. Right next to Guggenheim museum and red bridge. Well connected to the airport and Bilbao Internodal via Alameda Recalde ( 2 mins from the hostel). Comfortable beds (female dorm), very quiet room and no noise from outside, decent bathrooms and very clean too , decent sized locker(get your own padlock), very good bar and restaurant attached to the hostel, several bars around the area, nice and friendly staff. Cant get any more than this in a hostel.

What is a hotel's most serious responsibility? Surely, it is the safety of its clientele. Upon our recent stay at this hotel, we were saddened to find that the staff failed in this most basic responsibility. Our stay at the hotel had been smooth and uneventful. I noticed after the cleaners had been in that an unfinished packet of biscuits had gone missing. Obviously, it's no big deal and I didn't think anything of it. However, the next morning I awoke and reached down for my prescription medication that I had left, as I always do, by the side of my bed. I was surprised to find it missing, and after a thorough search around the room and our luggage, it became pretty clear that it had gone the way of the biscuits. My partner went down to reception to inform the staff of the situation. However, all she received was a fairly indifferent response, with staff members immediately going into a defensive mode and explaining that they take nothing but rubbish out of the rooms. The prescription medication was in a paper pharmacy bag that looked a little tattered, so clearly the cleaner saw it and binned it, not bothering to check inside it or look at the writing on the side of the bag that said ”PRESCRIPTION” or the big green crosses printed beside it. I don't entirely blame the cleaner though. Surely, the most serious, important instruction that a hotel can give to its cleaners is ”DO NOT BIN PRESCRIPTION MEDICINES”. This would seem an appropriate measure to prevent the kinds of things that happen when someone doesn't take the medication their doctor has prescribed them, often as a lifeline. ”Things that happen”, such as (and of course this is no exaggeration) severe sickness and even death. But given the reaction of the staff to the situation, it seems clear that the safety of their clients is held as being of no great importance, so it's hardly surprising that the cleaners would do something like this, and would never have been informed to take precautions such as ensuring not to bin someone's medication. Fortunately, we were returning home the next day, and we were able to obtain enough medication from the nearby pharmacy, the pharmacist there giving it to us purely on the basis of kindness. If it hadn't been for her kindness, the situation would have been very distressing and potentially dangerous. Despite the hotel being otherwise perfectly adequate, the safety of clients is undoubtedly the most important thing that a hotel can provide, and overrides everything else. Unfortunately, the fact that the hotel wasn't able to provide this leads me to this score.
