The Crown Inn at Benson

Sunday lunch with a friend while visiting Oxford. Welcomed and shown to our table and given a full run down of what was available and the days special dishes. Any concerns we had that the pub was half full were soon forgotten when the food arrived. Lamb shank for one and two roast Turkey dinners. Initially came as two lamb shanks but quickly fixed. Lamb fell off the bone. Both meats were tasty and came with Yorkshire, roast potato’s, 3 or 4 veg and gravy / sauce. My only suggestion would be a little extra veg wouldn’t have gone a miss eg 2 small roast potato’s wasn’t enough. If I wished for more veg the same could not be said for deserts. Large chocolate brownie and ice cream for two and cheese and biscuits made up of two large pieces of mature cheddar and Stilton with crackers and chutney. Good value at £110 inc a couple of soft drinks each.

Absolutely lovely place. Food is very good and the staff are very attentive. Though my wife asked for some dietary requirements, the waitress (and chef) were very accommodating and received everything we asked for. Will definitely pop in again when in the area!

Very disappointing lunch. I had to ask twice for the wine I ordered. I ordered French onion soup which came in a very shallow bowl with loads onions and melted cheese with no soup at all none. My mother had pork belly which had no crackling and was very very tough. I will not return again

Went for Sunday lunch with my daughter. I had the roast beef and she had a burger. The food was really good. Best roast beef I’ve had in a pub for a very long time! Service was excellent and she even got to design her own pumpkin. Lovely atmosphere and staff all friendly.

The very friendly landlord has done a super job of making this a great value and very welcoming pub. From the friendly and well trained staff, to the commitment to excellence in the kitchen, and the well kept Hook Nortons beer we had a very enjoyable lunch. Will I be going back? You bet!!!

We stayed due to visiting family and to attend Bunk Fest in Wallingford town and the location was ideal as the bus stop was only a 10 min walk from the pub. There was a bit of an issue with our hotel room however the managment quickly resolved this mix up professionally and promptly, the rooms were well equipped and spacious, staff were very friendly and welcoming. The pub had a real comfortable and homely vibe to it and the food on the general menu looked great. The only one thing I had an issue with is that it wasn’t made apparent that breakfast is included with your stay so we didn’t actually realise this until our last night and after having visited the Waterfront Cafe that was not great so it was a shame we missed out on what was such a good breakfast for our full stay. The sausages and bacon were such good quality! We have booked again for next year so I would highly recommended a visit!
