We had a wonderful stay here but experience will vary based on your expectations. We chose this hotel as our base for going on multiple excursions to multiple areas of central Belize. This worked well for us as the hotel has a wonderful concierge service and a dedicated and helpful transportation team. We were easily able to get to the ruins at Xunatunich, the cave kayaking adventure and out to Caye Caulker for snorkeling. This saved us from renting a car which is a blessing as driving in Belize is not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for an adventure like ours, the Hotel is perfect. If you are looking for a tropical resort with a beach in a swanky tourist area with lots of boutique shops and restaurants, this is not it. But then such a place does not exist in Belize City. The Radisson Fort George is located right next to the cruise ship terminal and the ferry terminals for Caye Cauker and San Pedro which is an advantage but the neighborhood, in general has seen better days. We found it safe though shabby but some may find it uncomfortable. The Radisson Fort George is in the middle of a major renovation and upgrade and I expect that it will eventually be fabulous. It is not there yet but we found our room in the 'new wing' to be spacious, airy, clean and well appointed. It had a balcony overlooking the sea which we did not use much because we were on the move most of the time. This area of the hotel has a nice open patio space and a dipping pool. The original side has a larger pool with a café. Positive things about the hotel: 1. The staff is very friendly and helpful without being intrusive or obsequious. 2. The dedicated transportation crew is very helpful and friendly. 3. The concierge was quite good at her job. 4. It is locate near the ferry and cruise ship terminals Negative things about the hotel: 1. The neighborhood is shabby though under renovation. 2. You will need to take a cab to get to the better restaurants 3. Housekeeping was spotty. 4. Rooms vary based on whether you are on the 'new' or the 'old' side. How to maximize the experience at this hotel: 1. Be clear about your expectations, if you are looking for a 'resort' look elsewhere 2. Request a room on the 'new' side. 3. Expect to use transportation services for restaurants. Martha's next door is okay but the rest will need a taxi. If this review helped you make a decision, give me a 'helpful' vote.
