This review is by someone who has decades of association with St Neots (which is where it is) and I have stayed there several times in the last year. Disregard many of the five star reviews which are palpably fake or else pertaining to another "Wyboston" hotel. This place does not deserve "Excellent" from anyone with normal expectations unless Value for Money is the overriding consideration. Firstly, this hotel is nowhere near Bedford! It is in BedfordSHIRE but actually just outside St Neots, Cambs. Why TL call it Bedford is beyond me. St Neots has a mystifying shortage of overnight accommodation so you are likely to end up either here or at one of two Premier Inns that are closer to St Neots and within a stone's throw of each other. ALL of them are very close to either the A1 or to the St Neots bypass. In the case of the TL it is on the Black Cat roundabout where the A1 and A421 meet. There is a petrol station adjacent. A convenient but traffic-heavy location for the motorist. The TL has NO catering onsite catering. The petrol station has a shop selling some bits and pieces like crisps and drinks. St Neots is a mile away with plenty of options. There is a McDonalds on the opposite side of the A1 but you will have to drive into and out of St Neots to access it. Allow about 15 minutes to get there but less than 5 to get back to the TL. The Premier Inns do have catering. But there is no reason to use it (other than for breakfast) when there are so many better options nearby. Remember I have local knowledge.... The TL is always cheaper but the price can be much higher for last minute peak bookings. Like all TLs it is basic. There is traffic noise but (a light sleeper) I don't find it a particular problem. unless the heat forces you to have open windows. And you will find it bad at the other chain hotels too. Fans are provided, None of the rooms have been dirty. One had a very worn bathroom floor. It is true that peripheral cleaning (eg window rebates) is not great but the sleeping and washing spaces have been clean. There are signs of wear everywhere but I have never been disgusted or had to complain. At the two Premier Inns, internal noise, in particular overhead, has been reported as an issue. At the TL I have not experienced any of these. Perhaps it has thicker floors and walls? In any event I have always got a good night's sleep. As always with TLs, you do marvel at the parsimoniousness of it all but it is (apart from in peak periods) cheap. Treat the dispensers of latherless liquid soap as emergency only and bring your own. A stupidity is that you cannot have a second key. And you get teacups but no glasses and no tooth mugs. Note to TL: Ikeas sell glasses for about 50p! Economy is something people understand. Stupidity is not. What lets the place down badly, though? Firstly a car park that is truly filthy. I would hate to be there when the accumulated dirt becomes mud. Above all, the hall carpets are genuinly disgusting. They are worn
