Our room was spacious, nice decor, good bed linen, great shower. Lovely building. All looked well on arrival. Unfortunately the room is next to the laundry room one side, the kitchen store/washroom the other, so people in and out and the strong smell of fabric softener, not the worse smell but overpowering.. Staff also talk outside the room where they enter the kitchen. One blind wouldn’t close (cord broken) , one window pane cracked and coffee machine wasn’t working properly..Nice biscuits in room though and thankfully Clipper tea. To stop people seeing in room we had to close a curtain but that made room very dark. Cars back almost to touching distance of room windows to park so lots of noise of wheels on gravel and car doors shutting, at both ends of day. One divan had a mattress that sank in middle. Great topper on bed but it didn’t make up for a very soft/squidgy mattress. We were woken in the morning by someone very heavy footed above us. The sound really carries. I really would not have chosen this room, had I known. It wasn’t worth the money. Breakfast was not very exciting and unbelievably we had better at a Premier inn, very recently, where everything was fresh to order and service very friendly.. The continental section needed refilling. We were not asked if we wanted toast. When we asked, it came as two soggy slices flat on a plate - the cheapest quality bread, poorly toasted. The coffee was not great, served in a dirty jug and poorly filtered. It goes like that when the filter needs replacing. Sausage and bacon tasted as if they had been cooked earlier and reheated or kept warm. My egg was a bit congealed. Service was basic. While we ate breakfast workmen were smoking and chatting in the conservatory the other side of the glass where we were sat. We had booked this for a special occasion and it didn’t deliver for the money paid. I’ve reviewed the restaurant separately.
