Hotel Makaabá Eco-Boutique

Two types of rooms at this property. The Classic, which is a normal room with a king bed, or the other, which is some type of loft where you walk in to an entryway, straight into the bathroom, or up the stairs to a loft bed. We had a loft the first night. Not the best option for a 6’3” 67 year old man. They were nice enough to switch us for the second night. Restaurant on-site is very good. Included breakfast also very good. Pool area and lounging areas are very nice. Would go back if a Classic room is available.

One of a kind eco hotel - very unique. They had different depth pools with overhanging lounge beds and a bar right by the pool. When we were there it was very quiet and not a party vibe at all but could have the potential for it. Very nice overall and would definitely come here again!

I'm so glad we stayed at this property. We loved our King bed Room, it was perfect for our 3 nights at Bacalar. We enjoyed walking everywhere for our activities. Its a few step close to many good restaurants and bars. Just street crossing in front of Bacalar Lagoon. Don't miss the delicious breakfast that they offer every morning. Loved that breakfast is available until 11:30am. Very friendly staff!

Overall, I liked this small hotel; it has the feel of a "hip hotel." The big selling point of this hotel are the green pools with the large one big enough to swim laps. There is also a fun high diving platform. Other positives are the nicely designed and decorated common spaces with several options on places to relax, work and eat. In addition, staff were professional, helpful and nice; the breakfast was good with several options; and it was very clean. However, there is one big negative with the cramped room being tiny with a loft bed that is reached by an awkward, steep (dangerous) staircase. The room is so tiny that it's difficult to open a large suitcase and there is no comfortable place to sit except the loft bed. Now there are comfortable places to sit elsewhere in the property. I think there are 8/9 small rooms with loft beds and a few more larger rooms with normal beds at the back of the property. Another negative is the constant horrible house music in the hotel. Finally, a word of warning: they've started construction on an addition to the property, which is inches away from the loft rooms (the rooms in the back are quiet).

This hotel is exceptional. Their eco concept is impressive, the location is perfect, the room was conformable and clean. Highly recommended! We had the best stay!

Upon arrival I was given my room. When settling in I noticed the air conditioner was not working properly. I informed the front office and they said they would have it fixed. After a night out we returned to a boiling hot room and no personnel to contact. I slept outside on the hammock due to the unbearable heat. The following day I was moved to another room but was told I would have move AGAIN due to having guests arriving. It didn’t make sense since the rooms were exactly the same. Steph or “Marianna” she gave me a different name than what other employees refer to her was extremely rude, condescending and unprofessional. She was hesitant to compensate, being extremely rude implying that ******* would not be compensating as if the AC not working was Expedias fault. Horrible experience, every single day was an inconvenience, I felt pressure every time I returned to the hotel. Not worth it, I will never again stay here. I would however, like to thank Maria at the front desk, the only person that was professional and empathetic of the horrible situation.
