The room was clean and adequate for a night. The bed in room #6 was very comfortable and the Wi-Fi was excellent. All the rooms are on the second floor. I arrived at 7 pm, after the front desk had closed but with a phone call, the owner was there very quickly. Check-in was a breeze. Parking is adjacent to the building. There’s a common room with a pool table and this is where the self serve breakfast is also. You help yourself to items in the fridge and freezer and there’s assorted cereals, teas, coffee, hot chocolate. There’s a second story deck for outside seating. The main things that were lacking was more than one hanger and a chair in the room so I didn’t have to sit on the bed.

The place was terribly unclean and unkept, dead and dying plant in our room. Strange smell in the bedroom, I would not advise staying here, the bed linens didn't appear to be washed or maintained. You might be better off sleeping in your car and saving the money, or go to alamosa or somewhere else.

The pictures don't do the hotel justice. The owner tries very hard and is very accommodating. But the hotel and the rooms are very old and have not been updated. The mattresses and the bedspreads are very old. It's a gem if you like old hotels but keep expectations very low. The area is very economically depressed.

Cute, funky hotel. Rooms are small, bathroom small, but our room was clean and had the essentials. Common area outside and another common room inside, not fancy but comfortable. Yes, the walls and windows are thin, but other guests were respectful and place was fairly quiet. Train station is just a block away. Hosts were helpful.

This hotel is perfect location to ride steam train. Manager Paul was very kind and pleasant. However, our room was not fully cleaned. My husband actually put the new pillow cases on while Paul ran to get more soap and towels. These rooms are charming and we appreciate that. However, they need deep cleaning to remove caked dust. I definitely didn’t want to touch anything I didn’t have to. There is a common room which has a pool table which we enjoyed. Breakfast wasn’t replenished on our second morning. This place has so much potential, but it needs sharp management to bring it up to par.

Basic old style lodging. On the plus, they responded quickly, politely, and informatively to all phone calls on arrival and after (We didn't have the code to get in afterhours). I enjoyed some of the funky stuff in the hallway --e.g., old pump organ and really interesting ceiling fan. Breakfast left a lot to be desired. No service provider present -- just a help yourself. They put out a bunch of sugary cereal, "pop tart" like toaster pastries, and sugary yogurt. Cheerios and instant oatmeal probably the healthiest choices -- such as they are. There was no hot coffee made -- just a machine but no water to put into it. The tea kettle didn't work. It was served in the common room with no tables -- everyone angling around the pool table. The other big thing that will put off many is that the smoke from the marijuana-section drifts over to the non-. I don't like smoke of any kind. So, that was unpleasant.

This is a hotel whose main attraction is its location near the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. If you want a great hotel, you probably need to stay further away from the railroad. We had a king bed suite. The major items were good: the place was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower was good, the kitchen was nice to have, the TV was small but worked well. The minor things were hilariously bad: the baseboard heater was held together with twist ties, the tile was loose under the rugs, the bathroom faucet was clogged and shot out water from one corner, you had to unplug the bedside lamp to turn it off, there was not one kitchen dish that matched. There was one small window air conditioner in the living area and a box fan to plug in to help cool things down. The breakfast consists of pop tarts, instant oatmeal, and cereal; the milk in the refrigerator had expired 2 months previously. To get to your room, you need to call a number when you arrive and wait for the owners to come and let you in. All the rooms are on the second floor and only accessible by an outside staircase.

People can’t seem to keep their opinions to themselves here, people doing illegal ***** in the hotel. Won’t ever stay here again, woken up by drug ******* setting off the fire alarm at 5 am. Too junkie filled.

Great little hotel. A 'must' if you are going on the Toltec Cumbres train. Older, very few rooms, but with all the necessary amenities. Great owners, very accommodating. We left an e-book reader in the room, called the owners, and it was in our mailbox before we got back home. One caution, there are outdoor stairs to the rooms, no elevator. Would definitely stay again.
