I had booked my night's stay at this hotel through ******* about a week before and thought I had accommodation sorted. Unfortunately my Eurostar train from London was delayed by several hours and I did not arrive at the hotel until 9.45pm, having walked the mile from Central Station with heavy luggage. On arrival, however, the receptionist informed me they had no knowledge of my booking, and that, in any case, all the rooms were taken. I showed the proof of my ******* reservation but she was not interested, and very reluctant even to check on her computer. It seemed obvious that they had given my reservation to someone else. It was no fun at all, at 68 years old, to find myself in a strange city quite late on one of the busiest nights of the year with no place to stay. I carried my heavy luggage all the way back to Cenral Station , calling in every hotel I passed to see if they had room, but they were all full. The battery on my phone had gone. At 11.30pm it seemed I would have to spend the night on the station. Fortunately, I decided to try one more hotel nearby and thankfully this time was successful in getting a room, though I had to pay well over the odds for it. The lesson from my experience for fellow travellers - do not automatically assume your reservation will be honoured!
