YAYS Amsterdam Salthouse Canal

Warm greeting from the staff when checking in, he showed us how to use the facilities e.g. washing machine and dryer in the room. Complimentary coffee, tea, cookies and chocolates in the lobby. Also shared laundry facilities in the basement (even we have 1 in the room). Super nice about these. There’re also 2 bikes available for rental. The room itself is big and clean with 1 large bed and 1 large sofa bed, suitable for travelling with 4 people. With in-room coffee machine also. And a nice view from the window. Just 1 thing can improve is the living room can be brighter with installing more lights. We had a very pleasant stay for 4 days.

Great location for walking around the Westerpark area. Apar**ent was comfortable and was nice to have kitchen facilities. When we arrived our room was not ready so we stored our luggage and went to lunch. Unfortunately still had to wait to get into our room when we returned. Would recommend hiring more staff for cleaning if a particular day has a lot of check-ins. Staff at desk were very friendly and helpful.

The accommodation was clean but minimalist. It had all the amenities listed in the accommodation such as washing machine, dish washer, cup, plates etc but I found it a little dark in the rooms, plug sockets hard to come by and only 1 mirror in the hall way (which had no plug sockets) It was also a bit of a pain having the hairdryer hardwired into the bathroom meaning that if someone was showering you couldn’t dry your hair. Likewise if someone was showering you couldn’t wash you hands after going to the toilet as the sink was in the shower room and not in with the toilet room. The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms basic but reasonably clean, carpets a little worn and a couple of marks on the wall. It was enough for what we needed as a group but i probably wouldn’t return, I’d like something a little closer to the centre and a little more homely. All the concierges were incredibly helpful, friendly and knowable about the area with nothing too much trouble. I don’t want to put anyone off visiting these apar**ents, as they did the job but they just weren’t for me.

I stayed at the YAYS Amsterdam Salthouse Canal for three nights during a business trip and had an underwhelming stay. The room needed a good clean - there were crumbs on the couch, brown spots in the shower, and weird residue on the walls and door in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, but the bedroom itself was quite noisy. Every hour on the hour, there was a weird noise, like claws walking across metal. Pigeons perhaps? I had a horrible night sleep questioning what the repeated sound could be. The bathroom was rudimentary with cheap, thin towels. The WiFi was not strong enough to hold a simple WhatsApp or FaceTime video call, although I was able to work on my laptop. On the bright side, the hotel is in a charming, local neighborhood. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re planning to visit tourist sites, but I enjoyed walking around the canals and seeing the house boats. Also, the staff were friendly. But this hotel is definitely in the “no return” category for me.

I got in at around 5pm after the delay of the train. It was a little far -2ish km from central station which I knew when I booked the place. Other than the little stairs I needed to maneuver my luggage up, the rest is history! When I arrived, Juan greeted me with pleasure and even managed to guess my name correctly. Check in was quick but I was informed that my room did not have any laundry facilities and I had to use the one in the laundry room. It was a bit disappointing as the laundry was the reason I booked this place despite the distance. Nonetheless, the room I was allocated was big and I believe had a clear view of the canal. Shortly after, Juan came and knocked on my room saying he had checked with his manager and he might be able to get me a room with a washer/dryer but the room might be a bit smaller. I agreed to it as the convenience of the laundry surpassed the size of the room. Perhaps another 5 minutes passed before Juan returned with the good news. I proceeded to move to my new room with a washer/dryer. This room whilst smaller was sufficient for me. The room had two windows (one was opened) instead of the many in the previous. As with the bedbugs issue in Europe currently, the first thing I did was to check that the mattress had no traces and it was clean! The room is clean with full kitchen facilities- oven, dishwasher and coffee machine with a huge island. There is a hairdryer available with very nice smelling shower gel/ hand soap. Ample supplies for the kitchen and bedroom (towels) are provided. The bedroom does not have a window and Juan delivered a fan for ventilation as I sought his assistance in opening the other window and also adjust the height of the shower. There is a full size mirror in the bedroom and the shower is pretty big. Sufficient hangers are available in the cupboard. The bed is really comfortable and the pillows are soft but a squarish shape. I do bring my own orthopaedic pillow hence the pillows are solely for hugging. The room has the charm of a salt storage with seemingly original beams still present. The lift is really fast too! Overall, the room is great, large enough even for 2 people. The laundry in the room is a plus! There is a coffee machine in the lobby which I figured was way easier to use than trying to decipher how to work out the one in the kitchen as there is no milk in the room. I would suggest having a box of tissues in the room which I did ask from the reception. Bruno gave me a packet as they didn't have any. That was good enough. Bruno was very helpful as the one looking after the reception in the morning. He provided great suggestions on places to go around the area and rules about biking in Amsterdam. Overall, while this place is slightly further away from the central -2km, it is worth the journey when I figured the train and bus close by. The facilities of the room and hospitality of the staff will be the reason you come to Yays Salthouse Canal.

Lovely apar**ent, had most things we needed, staff at reception exceptionally helpful, I shared the twin room with a friend, beside lamp had a frayed cable and could not be plugged in as no plugs close enough, we were in room 4, bedrooms would benefit from having a mirror

We enjoyed our time at Yays. We had a one bedroom which came with a pullout for the kids. It was quiet at the time we visited. The kitchens are well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, coffee and tea, etc. Very helpful staff with great recommendations for transit, sightseeing and much more. Free laundry on site. Very close to tram and bus line across town.
