We needed accomodation for two adults + 3 kids, which can get really expensive in Amsterdam. The family Apartment on the top floor of the Spiegelgracht Apartments is just perfect: 2 rooms, really central, kitchen on the ground floor to use. And yes, the stairs are steep, as are stairs in all Amsterdam houses, so enjoy or travel to another city. Landlord is super nice and helpful as well
