December 1, 2023. What a disappointment. Checked in at front desk, and then went to dinner. Upon arriving at the assigned room, the digital key would not work. Left my wife in the hallway while I went down to get a new key. Clerk reprogrammed the key which still did not work. Had to use my cell to call the desk, only it went to voice mail. At that time, a young guy opened the door and stated he was staying in the room. We went to the front desk and found the young guy explaining that he was with the carpet cleaning crew and was assigned that room. Then, we were assigned a room directly across the hallway. Upon entering the room, the tile floor seemed wet and slippery. Wanting to watch the rest of the Washington-Oregon football game, I switched on the television only to find the channel selection button was not working, and the television was tuned to NBC. Tried using the room phone, but no dial tone, and the phone had a different room number on it. Went down to the desk a third time with the remote in hand only to find the clerk on a phone call. Stood in the background to give the clerk privacy with her call. I assumed she saw me, but a lady arrived to check in and was taken care of. Then a couple arrived to check in, but I stepped in to report the faulty television and was greeted that the sensors on the set needed to change. Stated she would be up in a few minutes to correct the situation. An hour later at 10:30pm, I woke my wife from the chair and told her we were going to bed. Room was very clean, bed comfortable and air conditioning worked fine. Waking the next morning, I decided to make coffee in the room coffee maker, but it didn't work. Apparently, it didn't work for the previous guest since it had water already in the maker. I went down to the breakfast area and got my wife a cup of coffee and some yogurt. I then returned and had my own breakfast. Overall, a decent free breakfast. The morning clerk asked me how my stay was, and I stated, "very disappointed" and then explained everything that happened. The manager was close by and was given the details of our stay. She discounted my bill by 10% ($13.90 as I recall). We'll be returning to Alvin but will not stay at this location. I will give the evening desk clerk high marks--so apological and understanding.
