The Sunset Inn

Literally stopped at the Sunset Inn to book a room for two nights, was greeted by the nicest front desk lady. Unfortunately, I don't remember her name but she was so welcoming and pleasant. I give her a thumbs up!!! We had a king size bed the room was spacious not over the top fancy but nice and clean. The bed was comfortable, and the pillows were ok. What I liked was the room and bathroom was CLEAN. We have stayed in some hotels where I question how thorough housekeeping was. One thing I do wish there was a mirror in the room only one was in the bathroom. It would help in getting ready when the other person is in the bathroom shower. Breakfast was ok, it was a hot breakfast, but one staff member was trying to keep up with making waffles and eggs while guests are waiting. Can't beat the price and location for Sand Dunes and the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad. The town has lots of restaurants to choose from too. We would stay there again!

Room was great, amenities were really good, and one of the staff (female, sorry don't remember her name) went out of their way to make it fun for our granddaughter, even making up a little bag of some snacks for her to take for the Sand Dunes the following morning.

The man at the check-in desk was really friendly. He suggested places near town that we could take our family for some extra fun. We took his suggestion to go to the natural hot springs pool and really enjoyed it. We gave this hotel a 4 star because breakfast was pretty much non-existent. The waffle maker was broken so if we wanted waffles, we had to get staff to help, but the lady at the front desk wasn't around so we left. The rooms were nice and clean. You could tell they had been updated/ or well maintained. I just wish they would add some USB charger ports. We were pleased with our stay....minus the breakfast situation.

It was the penultimate night of my 22-day/6894mike/10946kms /2-country/15-stare motor tour to/from central (Manitoba/Saskatchewan) Canada when I overnighted at this exceptionally fine motel. I was in large room 104, with two queen beds (I only used one). The usual accouterments [microwave/minifridge/flat screen/ice machine(unusually located on the second floor, not the ground floor)] were good, but the best aspect was the mattress is perhaps the firmest I’ve slept in any many years. Definitely five stars as well as my coveted “¡Wheel of Approval!” HOWEVER, one star was lost due to inaccessibility to WiFi/internet. Fortunately, superb receptionist Daniel was able to enter the correct code on my I-phone and successful transmissions occurred that night (31MAR2024). Unfortunately, the connection was lost overnight, and none of us could get it back online. I had to go to a nearby Starbucks for cellphone use. This seriously significant disappointment cost the Sunset Inn one star despite perfection in every other category, including ADA compliance. I am uncertain if I Would I stay here again—effective WiFi/internet/cellphone connection are petty much essential in today’s World!!!

A little disappointed with this accommodation considering the building is supposed to be newish. Bed was comfortable. No coffee machine in room. Room was dark and smelt of animals. I know pet friendly accommodation is all the rage now, but I shall make sure in future to ask for a room that isn't used to accommodate pets, or choose a hotel that doesn't accept pets. Breakfast was a disappointment. No toast, and the coffee tasted as if it was watered down. It is a budget hotel, but perhaps they could serve a better breakfast and provide coffee machines in the room by putting up their prices a little.

No coffee Maker in the Room!! I’ve never stayed at a hotel that in this day & age didn’t have a coffee maker in the room! This hotel is billed as the newest hotel in Alamosa. Come on Sunset Inn splurge a little bit and go to Walmart and for $9.99 buy a mini coffee maker for your rooms!! That’s what I ended up doing. So To get coffee you have to go to the front desk area and they have pump canisters of who knows how old coffee ready for you 24/7. However I like fresh brewed coffee. Also in the morning I don’t want to get fully dressed and go down to a main area and socialize. I need my coffee first thing!

It was not enough lighting in the room even after turning on all the lights. You will not be able to find your black socks on the dark room carpet. The breakfast is supposed to start at 7 AM. When we arrived the dining place after 7 AM, the employee were just start cooking. About 8, 9 people all patiently watching the breakfast cooking show and waiting for eating breakfast. It is a budget Inn, but we are not likely to come back again.

I had a bag of earrings stolen out of my room. Manager not helpful at all. Said I lost them. Got mad that I accused his cleaning staff. Called the police and filed a report. Cleaning lady a known their in town per the police department! Unwilling to reimburse me or take my theft seriously. Manager hung up on me!

This motel has such potential were it not for the manager. I called in to reserve another night on the fly or at least to see if it that was possible. Clerk informs me she cant do that as that room is booked out next two nights. I drive all the way back from Antonitio train station to complete transaction for a different room for that night. I drive back to Antonito. Manager then calls and leaves message (as I am on the train) and he put me in same room I was just in and that clerk told me I could not reserve for another night. He maintains that as he tried to call and I didn't pick up, no compensation for my extra effort and/or expense is in order. Thanks for making the customer number one.......not!!
