The rooms and amenities of the hotel are good. Unfortunately the food isn't that good and the hotel front desk is abysmal. The hotel tried to trick both my colleague and I out of rooms and tell us that our reservations weren't valid. They did this with me on the second night, so apparently it wasn't an issue when I checked in, but they suddenly discovered it when they overbooked the hotel. I came back from my conference and the key to my room had been disabled (turning off my key so I would have to go to the front desk was underhanded). The front desk asked me how long I was staying, I showed them my reservation and confirmation number, and they told me the confirmation number wasn't valid because it was provided to me by my employer's travel agency and not from the hotel directly. I explained that is the actual purpose of a travel agency, I don't deal with the hotel directly, all coordination is done by the hotel and the travel agency. My travel agency said it make the hotel reservation directly with the front desk and got the confirmation directly from them, but it seems the front desk clerk did not enter the reservation into their system. I told the front desk I had no intention of waiting around for them to figure it out so I wanted to go to my room to change. They gave me a new key, and a few minutes later I received a call from the front desk asking if they could send someone to my room to speak with me. I should have declined but I was being courteous and said it was fine. The hotel employee told me they have overbooked the rooms and they needed to move me to another hotel because the person who they gave the room to was on a flight into Abuja. I explained that I had a valid reservation and I was not moving hotels without permission of the US embassy because the hotel was one of only a couple approved hotels in Abuja. I also told the employee if it moved me, it needed to move several of my colleagues because we are required to stay in the same location by policy. The employee left the room, and about an hour later I inquired about the status and was told that they had moved someone else. The hotel was responsible for the supposed mistake with the reservation, but they wanted me to make things easier for them instead of the other way around. They also tried the same with another colleague of mine. So I would be very cautious about trusting that your reservation is valid with this hotel.
