"Hidden Gem. I don't like to use the phrase but it works here. In my ignorance I'd not heard of Douneside but what a fantastic hotel. So happy with our stay. Lovely building, magnificent gardens, very nice bar, great selection of wines and whiskies, wonderful menu of beautiful food, great colleagues working with hotel guests - so helpful. At one apparently high end NE hotel we arrived and asked for a scone - nope. So poor. Whereas here at Douneside we had complimentary scones with jam and cream and tea. Fantastic. Can't fault the hotel. Many thanks."

"We had a wonderful family stay with Joyce and Gary and could not have asked for better hosts. Joyce, who we saw most, is the perfect host: warm, welcoming and genuinely keen for her guests to enjoy not only her beautiful B&B, but also the surrounding area.
She gave us so many excellent recommendations for walks, restaurants and places to visit, and we followed every one of them without ever being disappointed! She even went the extra mile by calling local businesses to make bookings for us, which was incredibly helpful.
The B&B itself is beautifully and tastefully decorated, and we particularly loved the daily afternoon teas, something we quickly came to look forward to! Breakfasts were generous, beautifully fresh and delicious.
The location is also ideal, with all the main sights and must-sees close by. Everything was just perfect, and honestly, I cannot think of a single suggestion for improvement.
We would very happily return and would wholeheartedly recommend Joyce’s B&B to anyone looking for a lovely place to stay and a genuinely special experience.

"Fantastic birthday lunch in the Conservatory. Wonderful menu laden with local produce, beautifully prepared and served. The atmosphere in the Conservatory was extremely comfortable and relaxed and, as a music lover, the playlist was just right, a great selection of well known classic hits played at a perfect volume. For this standard of food and service I think the cost was very reasonable and look forward to returning soon. Highly recommended!"

"Ao chegar, as duas noites foram reservadas com outro casal e pagas, e as duas quartos foram Muito apertadas, as telhas estavam mal equipadas, as caixas de extensão eram usadas para acoplar aparelhos e o cheiro de vapor que se apercebeu EM todo o hotel. A decisão de reduzir as nossas perdas FOI tomada e depois ficámos no Comércio no Inn, e quando explicamos Ao proprietário as razões pelas quais não conseguimos ficar, ela tomou as chaves com um choque. Mais tarde, de alguém que costumava trabalhar no Aberdeen Arms, aprendemos que as boas críticas são deixadas pelos membros Da família e pelo pessoal do proprietário, e é fácil encontrar o pior hotel que já reservei."
