Documents Required For Entry

Although Kota Kinabalu (KK) and Kuala Lumpur (KL) are cities in the same country, these two cities are not located in the same geographical part of Malaysia. Kota Kinabalu is the capital city of Sabah, a state located in East Malaysia whereas Kuala Lumpur is located on the central west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The immigration processes for Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia are all separate and distinct from one another, each with its own specific requirements and processing times therefore; you will have to pass through immigration when travelling between Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur.

This means that you will require a valid passport/travel documents and relevant visas to enter Kuala Lumpur. All documents must be original and copies are not acceptable. Upon arrival, you will receive an entry passport stamp. Getting To The City Centre From The Airport

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is Malaysia’s main international airport and one of the biggest airports in Southeast Asia and worldwide. It is approximately 57 km from Kuala Lumpur city centre. Both KLIA and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) are two terminals in the same area, separated by a 2 km distance. You can get to the city centre from KLIA or klia2 through various ways:

1. Shuttle Services

Taking a shuttle bus from the airport is the cheapest way to get to the city centre. You can choose to board the KLIA Airport Coach from KLIA at RM 10.00 per trip or the Skybus from klia2 at RM 11.00 per trip.

Airport Coach starts operating its services daily from KLIA at 06:00 am until the last bus at 00:30 whereas Skybus’ first bus from klia2 starts at 05:00 and the last bus is at 02:45.

Since KLIA and klia2 are located near each other, the travel time by bus is almost the same. It takes approximately 1 hour and the drop-off point for these buses is usually at KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur’s main transportation hub in the city.

2. KLIA Express Train

Although not the cheapest, KLIA Express is the fastest way to get to the city centre, with a direct non-stop journey to KL Sentral. Regardless of whether you are taking the train from KLIA or klia2, each adult ticket costs RM 55.00 and RM 25.00 for every child (aged 6 – 15 years old).

This is a great option for those who are traveling with lots of luggages and are in a hurry to reach the city centre. It takes approximately 28 minutes to reach the city and its operating hours is between 06:00 am to 11:10 pm daily.

3. KLIA Transit Train

KLIA Transit shares the same tracks as the KLIA Express Train and charges the same amount of ticket fare to get to KL Sentral. The only difference is that it makes a few stops before it reaches KL Sentral. This train is convenient for those who need to get off at the following stations; Salak Tinggi, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya and Bandar Tasik Selatan.

If you want a faster, non-stop train that goes directly to KL Sentral, look for the KLIA Express train schedule and be careful not to purchase the KLIA Transit train ticket instead.

4. Taxi / E-hailing Services

You can opt to take a taxi directly from KLIA or klia2 to the city centre. The airport taxis operate on a fixed fare system depending on your destination and will take approximately 50 minutes to reach the city centre.

Alternatively, you can also download e-hailing apps such as Grab Malaysia or MyCar. Usually, the fares on these e-hailing services would be cheaper than taking a regular taxi or an airport taxi.

5. Rent a Car

Best Time to Travel to Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur is generally warm throughout the year, with occasional rainy days all year round. 1. Petronas Twin Towers

Being the capital city, majority of the locals in Kuala Lumpur are well-versed in English as the language is widely used, despite the national and official language being Bahasa Malaysia (Malay). So do not worry about not knowing any local phrases or words. It is, however, recommended to learn basic Malay if you are heading towards any rural areas. Like other countries in the world, speaking at least some local phrases or attempting to learn the language will be appreciated by the locals.

3. Religion
