This hotel is the best hotel that we stayed in on this trip . The onsen has an outdoor onsen that is truly beautiful overlooking the hills and valley of mount Aso. You need to walk about 50 m from the hotel to reach there . We had twin beds in the newly refurbished wing and everything was clean and new . Wifi was good . Temperature control good . Bathroom was adequately big with good water pressure . There was water dispenser and ice dispenser as well near the lifts . What made the stay special was the star gazing activity at night . Although we did not understand Japanese , the guide had a cool laser light that he pointed at the sky to point out the stars . We loved this activity . Food wise - lots of variety and very refined . Loved the delicious dinner and breakfast . What was lovely was the free flow of alcohol , juices and soft drinks throughout dinner . Will definitely stay here again .

You can experience traditional Japanese relaxing time at this accommodation. They have a lot of separated Onsen rooms, and some could be locked by yourself as a private bath room. I recommend you to try some Onsen. You can also eat local dinner with a lot of dishes. The bed room is cover with Tatami which is a Japanese straw mat, and the Tatami is comfortable with your barefoot. Also no bed, you have to sleep on Japanese rug Futon. The facility is enough clean as well. I would like to stay again the accommodation when I will re-visit Kurokawa Onsen village. 静かな温泉街のステキな旅館。1泊だけでしたが、とても満足度の高い時間を過ごす事が出来ました。 この旅館にはたくさんの露天と内湯温泉があり、そのうち宿泊者用の家族風呂が10近くあります。部屋数も多くない旅館なので、ほぼ必ず楽しむ事が出来るでしょう。湯温もちょうどよく、家族風呂をはしごして楽しみました。 食事も素晴らしく、とても美味しい熊本料理を楽しめました。料理の質はかなり高かったと感じました。 仲居さんは研修生と書かれた、若い男性でしたが、対応も説明もしっかりこなしてくれて満足です。 また黒川温泉に来る機会があれば、お世話になりたい、そう思える時間でした。

The meal was very delicious with morning and evening thoughts. However, it was a pity that the person in charge was a new rice, so there was no explanation of the dish. There was an explanation from the lady general at breakfast. (I think dinner books are required.) Especially rice is excellent. I returned for the first time. I heard the brand to the lady general on the way back. When I returned, I was brought with a different tea bowl and I thought my care was great. Because it was spring festival, I thought it would be ruined if there was a person in a country with a large voice, but I was able to spend very quietly at the dining room. I thought that maybe even the inn was thinking... And the dryer in the room is weak. Amenities are substantial. I was happy that there was cleaning, lotion and cotton swab in the public bath. The phone can't see the email unless you go out. The price is also reasonable compared to a famous inn nearby. During the day, stop by hot springs nearby, and if you stay here, it is the best!

Ryokan Sanga is an absolute gem - an authentic, boutique ryokan in the woods along the river. The grounds are gorgeous, with beautiful details everywhere. I was very grateful that Ryokan Sanga accepts solo travellers - as many ryokan don’t, or else they charge you for two. I had a perfect solo travel experience. Here’s what you should know: Access: Ryokan Sanga is ~2km outside of the town centre of Kurokawa Onsen. I didn’t have a car, and I didn’t regret that at all. Ryokan Sanga sent a driver to pick me up from the bus stop, and since I arrived several hours before check-in, he dropped me off in the little town of Kurokawa Onsen and took my bags to the ryokan. He then picked me up before checkin, and when we arrived, my bags were in my room. The ryokan offers free shuttles to town or to other Onsen if you are doing the Nyuto Tegata (Onsen hopping pass). After checkout, they dropped me off in town, and then picked me up with my suitcase later that day and took me to the bus stop. The service was beyond amazing. Room: I booked a Standard room for one night. It had no Onsen and no shower (just a toilet and sink). There was also a closet and a kitchenette area. Ukata, socks and slippers are provided. You can hear the roar of the river and waterfall, which turned out to be perfect white noise for sleeping. Onsen: When I checked in I booked the private outdoor Onsen for the evening and the following morning (no extra charge). Bookings are for 50mins and there are washing facilities, a sink and hairdryer. The outdoor Onsen is beautiful- it is right beside the river with waterfalls (see pics). Meals: I booked the last meal times which were 7pm for dinner and 8:30am for breakfast - the food was amazing; the dinner was one of my most memorable in my travels to Japan. See sample menu.
